Innerstädtischer Tourismus

Urban Exploring, die Stadterkundung auf eigene Faust, ist ein neuer bisher fast unbemerkter Trend. Dabei werden vor allem verlassene, verfallene oder auch unheimliche Gebäude und Anlagen besichtigt. Diese abenteuerliche Art der Stadtbesichtigung geht bisweilen an den Rand der Legalität, doch es gibt auch offizielle Touren, zum Beispiel in den Untergrund von Rom, Paris und Berlin.
 

 Innerstädtischer Tourismus ist kein neues Phänomen, aber aktueller denn je... 

„Statt zu verreisen, kann man auch in der Stadt bleiben und diese unter immer wieder neuen Gesichtspunkten erleben“, beschreibt Jörg Zintgraf, Geschäftsführer von StattReisen Berlin, das Konzept seiner Firma. Schon seit 1983 bietet das Weddinger Unternehmen Stadtspaziergänge an, die gleichermaßen für Touristen von außerhalb und für Einheimische konzipiert sind. „Die Touristen und die Berliner miteinander ins Gespräch bringen ist uns ganz wichtig“, sagt Zintgraf, „denn so wird der Zoo-Effekt vermieden und die Stadt wirklich greifbar gemacht.“ Zunehmend interessieren sich nämlich die Berlin-Besucher auch für das Funktionieren dieser Millionenstadt – und nicht nur für die allseits bekannten Sehenswürdigkeiten. „Es kann durchaus reizvoll sein, sich auch die vermeintlichen Ghettos näher anzusehen“, sagt der Bezirksbürgermeister von Berlin-Mitte Dr. Christian Hanke, in dessen Bezirk mit Moabit, Wedding und Gesundbrunnen drei ganz besonders schlecht angesehene Ortsteile liegen.Dass darin auch ein touristischer Reiz liegen kann, glaubt auch der Bürgermeister. Es kann für den einen oder anderen Touristen durchaus reizvoll sein, eine preiswerte Unterkunft in einem einfachen, aber lebendigen Innenstadtviertel zu haben und von dort aus Berlin zu erkunden. So vermittelt StattReisen beispielsweise Schulklassen in eine Unterkunft in der Koloniestraße 77, am Nordostrand des Ortsteils Gesundbrunnen: „Die Stadt ausgehend von einem ehemaligen Wohnhaus in einem als Problemkiez geltenden Gebiet zu erkunden zeigt einfach viele Zusammenhänge auf“, erklärt StattReisen-Geschäftsführer Zintgraf. Wie sonst kann man verstehen, wie Hunderttausend Berliner wirklich leben?

The authors discuss the various benefits of ecotourism operations based in
urban environments. These benefits are considered as they relate to the restora-
tion of natural areas, the issue of impacts relating to the transportationof visitors,
interpretation and education directed at changing attitudes and values so as to
foster pro-environmental behaviour and, finally, the financial viability of
ecotourism operations. The authors are able to support the work of Chirgwin
andHughes (1997: 7)who state that ‘if ‘nature-based’ is amore appropriate crite-
rion than natural, then this offers awider range of options for those planning and
promoting ecotourism experiences’.
These conclusions provide insights into current issues such as how to meet
growth in demand for ecotourismexperiences. Thismay necessitate broadening
the scope of ecotourism and recognising the diversity that exists within the
sector.Part of the solutionmaybe to develop attractionsat sites that offer degrees
of naturalness in areas that are otherwise developed to meet the infrastructural
requirements of the tourismindustry. This article identifies that these avenues of
development are being pursued currently in New Zealand. Case studies
presented herein suggest that these operations are more able than most to meet
the demanding criteria that continue to define, albeit contentiously, the
ecotourism sector of the tourism industry.
